Sports Ears is a personal portable radio unit designed to allow the fans at a rugby match to listen to the Referees, the Touch Judges and hear the SKY TV commentary, either individually or all at the same time!

Sports Ears
is a normal FM radio that can be used during the week to receive normal FM radio stations but when taken to a game it can be switched to a special frequency (SE 1) to hear the Sports Ears transmission. (This signal cannot be picked up on a normal radio.)

Sports Ears has the ability to shrink the ground and put you right in the action even if you are seated at the back of the stadium.

All of this not only demystifies the referee’s decisions but informs, educates and entertains the viewing public at a game.

Instructions of Use

Once at a match, the SportsEars unit is switched to the SE 1 position where three user options can be used:
  1. Switch to the "Whistle Logo" position and the Referees can be heard through both earpieces.
  2. Switch to the "TV Logo" position and the broadcaster’s commentary of the match can be heard
  3. Switch to the "Whistle and TV Logo" position and the TV broadcaster commentary and the Referees can both be heard at one time!

The Sports Ears unit enables fans to hear all the referee’s calls as he cautions players, awards tries, penalties, offside etc.

Matches

For the 2008 and future seasons, the consumer will be able to use the SportsEars at all of the following games:
  • Super 14
  • Philips International Series
  • Air New Zealand Cup

It is also possible to use the Sports Ears unit in Australia (by switching it to the SE 2 position) at any Super 14 game and International test. The Sports Ears unit is a quality hard plastic unit that is supplied with batteries that are replaceable and quality stereo earpieces.
